Interesting....

So if the power company comes to cut your power because you're not paying your bill, you can call the police?

That's not unique to Florida, I believe Pennsylvania at least has a similar law. If you have solar panels, you can sell electricity back to the grid but you can't disconnect from it.

That is crazy. Simply crazy.

Though here in the U.K. you can live sustainably and be hooked up to the power supply and use the system as a back up, the good point is if you generate more than you use you can sell that electricity to the National Grid and let your house create a nice income and there are two ways of getting paid. 1 is a low rate which pays for you generating electricity (whether you make enough to sell to the National Grid or not) and number 2 is if your likely to generate more than you need you can get a higher rate from Net Metering where you phone a company with your meter readings and they pay you for it.

This has nothing to do with anti-sustainability. This has everything to do with very wealthy interests (in this case, power companies) lobbying the government to strong arm people into buying their service. It's a very old, time tested tactic. Probably the primary purpose of government these days really...

But what about the Amish lobby? Someone else on here actually mentioned them, but I didn't know that your state had the law, too.

And the occasional drunk. This is the state where 14 or 15 DUI's is the norm.

Haha, true. I found some land out here in Southern Oregon but trying to build out there would be a pain in the ass

" With a completely self-sustaining life style, no body would ever have to work. "

Yep. And if I am really, really very good, Santa will bring me a Ferrari FF. Sure.

Why would you want an FF when you have a 2-door Aveo? :)
